Axminster’s illuminated carnival procession attracted bumper crowds on Saturday, September 19, with delighted organisers praising all who those who made it such a success.

Thanks to the turnout they hope to have done really well with the collections – at least matching last year’s £1,840.

All the money raised on the night goes to local good causes and the committee stages other regular events during the year to finance the next carnival.

Secretary Geoff Enticott said John Jeffery, Roger Critchard and their crew of marshals and helpers did ‘a really super job’ and he also praised the StreetScene team who did ‘a marvellous job’ cleaning the rubbish-strewn streets afterwards, while the town slept. “It was immaculate – absolutely tip top” he said.

He also expressed the committee’s thanks to Herberts Funfair, the carnival’s main sponsors, who found a new home this year on the former Webster’s Garage site.
