Supermarket sets up a collection point for non perishable items to help struggling workers and their families
A food bank to help feed struggling Axminster Carpets’ workers and their families has been launched today (Thursday) at the town’s Tesco supermarket.
Even before staff put up signs advertising the collection point customers had contributed a tray full of non perishable foodstuffs.
Many employees at the beleaguered factory are working without pay as management and union officials strive to put together a rescue package.
Tesco customer service manager James Sedgwick said they hoped people would come in and donate items to the food bank appeal which will run for at least the next week.
He said they would ensure it got delivered to the people who needed it.
