Axminster church service for those who forget

The Axe Valley Mission Community launches a new initiative for people with memory problems
A new initiative across the Axe Valley Mission Community begins on Sunday (June 18) – a church service especially for those who forget things - and their friends.
As age advances people can find attending church more difficult and this can be exacerbated by memory issues, say organisers. Problems may be due to the time of the service, the duration of the service and / or the complexity of the service.
To try to address some of these issues a new style of service will be held at Holy Cross Church, Woodbury Lane, Axminster, on Sunday at 3pm and everyone is welcome.
The simple ‘songs of praise’ service will feature well known hymns, readings, a short address and some prayers, led by the Rev Mary Harding.
Said a spokeswoman: “If you know people who have issues with their memory and who no longer manage to attend church in the morning, or in fact people who have not attended church for some time this might be the ideal solution.
“This is a trial and we will judge whether it works after this first service. Do please encourage people to attend, and join us for a relaxed friendly afternoon. As an additional incentive cakes and tea will be provided after the service!”
