The rug was presented to Gerry and Peter Hampton, the organisers of the auction, at the last meeting of the local RNLI guild before Lifeboat Week, which starts on Saturday, July 23.

The rug was handed to the guild by Maggie Sullivan, sales administrator at Axminster Carpets, who is also the new secretary of the Lyme Regis and Charmouth RNLI Guild.

The auction is being held at 6pm on Tuesday, July 26, at the lifeboat station.

Lots include a £100 voucher for Mark Hix’s restaurant and a print depicting the lifeboats of Lyme Regis, which has been adapted for the cover of this year’s lifeboat week souvenir programme.
