Devon authority faced with tough choices as it looks to shave £30million from its budget next year
DEVON County Council leader John Hart is coming to Axminster next week to tell people about the tough spending choices the authority is facing.
As part of a round of public consultations he will be visiting the Guildhall on Thursday (November 24) to speak to residents, at 6.30pm.
He will explain how councillors face having to save £40 million from their spending next year, following the £54.6 million reductions they made this year.
More than £10 million will be found by cutting management, administrative costs and back office expenditure.
But around £30 million will still need to be found from local services – a reduction of seven per cent.
This week Axminster mayor Andrew Moulding urged residents to attend the meeting and have their say on where they think the cuts could be made.
“It would be nice to get as many as possible to join in the debate”.
