Glynis and Charlotte will walk through the night to raise money for Cancer Research UK

An Axminster businesswoman is teaming up with her daughter to trek through the night as a thank you to the medics who saved her life.

Glynis George and daughter Charlotte Powell are taking on the Shine Night Walk in London this Saturday (September 24) to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Glynis was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago but is now recovered thanks to treatment at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

“They were just fantastic,” said Glynis us who runs Glynis George Interiors in Victoria Place.

Charlotte who was brought up in Axminster is now with the Metropolitan Police mounted branch.

She said: Two years ago I received a phone call from my mum. She had a lump in her breast and it had been diagnosed as cancer. Worst still it had been there for a year without diagnosis. I instantly felt sick, I was sure I was going to lose my mum to this hideous disease.”

But Charlotte said her treatment was so successful that within weeks her mum was back running her own business with new determination to live life to the full.

She said: “Mum is now cancer free, thanks to the expert care at Exeter Hospital.”

Urging people to support their fundraising she said: “Cancer has touched us all in one way or another. Dig deep please. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
