A multi-million pound scheme to build an Axminster bypass that aims to reduce congestion is set to be discussed at another consultation event.

Residents in the town are being urged to attend a public meeting by East Devon District Council (EDDC) to share their views on the plans for a £16.7million relief road.

The event will be held at the Guildhall on Thursday (December 6) between 10am and 2pm and 4pm and 6.30pm.

The proposals for the bypass are apart of a master plan for the eastern part of the town and has been the subject of growing concern. It is the second consultation to take place this year.

This latest meeting will give residents the opportunity to see how the relief road could be built. So far the council has £10million in Government funding to put towards the project and, at this latest consultation event, the authority will be sharing its ideas of how it is going to find the remaining £6.7million needed.

There will also be details on the master plan which looks to develop around 650 new homes with associated employment land, open space, community facilities and a primary school as well as land for the delivery of a north/south relief road.

Once agreed, the master plan will be used as a template for the site when looking at planning applications from Persimmon Homes and the Crown Estate.
