Town snubs royal party plan.
Only members of the town council turned up to a public meeting the authority called to discuss ideas to mark the 60th anniversary.
Jerry Walden said, apart from colleagues, the room was empty despite some excellent press publicity and posters advertising the event. “I was not overwhelmed with the response from the general public,” he said.
Now the council is to write to local organisations asking them to come up with ideas for the town’s celebrations.
