Scouts celebrate the English Patron Saint

Members of the 1st Axminster Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their families joined groups from across the district to celebrate St George's Day.

The event, at Sid Vale Scout Hut, involved the youngsters dressing a parent or leader as the English Patron Saint and create a dragon out of a wheelbarrow.

The scouts had previously created four dragon heads which were fitted onto the wheelbarrow which was then decorated by everyone present.

All family members made swords and shields to carry in a race.

Axminster came first in the best-dressed St George competition and had a great time racing against the other groups.

Axminster Scout Group has also been the recipient of £2,000 from the Tesco supermarket 'Bags for Help Scheme' and this has enabled it to replace faulty flooring in its meeting area.

Said leader Linda Green: "We are very grateful to Tesco for providing us with the money and for supporting us in so many of our activities."
