Coffee morning for the sweet-toothed
AXMINSTER Church Rooms was no place for weight-watchers today – when chocolate, in all its glorious forms, was the big attraction.
A coffee morning, specially designed to tempt the sweet-toothed, was held to raise money for the town’s Tourist Information Centre.
Axminster Chamber of Trade has to find some £10,000 a year to keep the service going, since major funding was withdrawn around seven years ago.
The town council chips in with £1,000 and the annual beer festival produces another £3,000 to £4,000.
Chamber Chairman Shane Morgan said for the remainder they had to rely on sponsorship and fund raising events, as well as some donations from local businesses.
“Events like this are essential to keep it going,” he added.
Chocolate for today’s fund raiser was supplied by Tesco whose community champion Kath Rabjohns even went along to help with the washing up.
Amongst those manning the stalls alongside Mr Morgan was Axminster TIC manager Sarah Crook.
