Lyme musicians complete a busy festive season
Carols in Broad Street on Christmas Eve ended a very busy period for the Lyme Regis Town Band, which performed across the area.
It began its seasonal programme at the Festive Friday celebrations in Axminster and, on the following day, the musicians entertained shoppers in Lyme Regis with traditional carols.
For several years, the band has provided music at the All Saints’ annual Christmas concert, and this year was no exception, contributing solos as well as accompanying the carol singing.
Visits to residential homes have always featured in the Christmas programme, but for the first time, invites were issued for the residents to join the band at its annual Christmas concert, held at the Woodmead Halls.
A number of them took up the offer and the residents enjoyed a great afternoon of entertainment, which included tea and cakes during the interval.
As well as the regular fixture of the Rotary carols around the tree on the day before Christmas Eve, the band played carols in Broad Street on three separate occasions. During each session, members received much-appreciated free hot drinks from the owner of the Fudge Kitchen.
Following a Christmas and new year break, the band’s next event will be the annual general meeting on Tuesday (January 12) at the Woodmead Halls. New players are always welcome and anyone interested should contact the secretary on 01297 442719.
