THE Baton, which aims to encourage public support for members of Britain's armed forces, is likely to be taken to the top of Mount Everest.

Alan Rowe MBE, of Honiton, who launched the national charity less than two weeks ago at RAF Lyneham, has been overwhelmed by public support for the campaign.

The Baton carries a message, which has already been delivered to a school in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Mr Rowe personally visited the school after being approached by its head teacher.

"The Baton is something fresh and imaginative that people can work with," he told the Herald.

"I have had wonderful letters from people."

The Baton is encouraging support for the National Memorial Arboretum.
