The face of the BBC's Homes Under the Hammer in the West Country, auctioneer Graham Barton, has returned to the office he first joined more than 40 years ago.
Back in September 1979 a young lad joined R & C Snell Auctioneers in Axminster. His name was Graham Barton. Graham, the eldest son of a local dentist, took to the firm like a ‘duck to water’ and stayed until the mid-1990’s.
25 years later a somewhat ‘older lad’ has joined Symonds & Sampson, who merged with R & C Snell in 2001. During that time, not only has Graham become a Chartered Surveyor of great regard, but also a renowned Property Auctioneer, having sold thousands of residential, commercial and development properties as well as many lots of agricultural and amenity land that have amassed him sales of an estimated quarter of a billion pounds! Quite some achievement for one man.
Graham knows the West Country inside out - there is hardly a road, never mind a town or village that he’s not visited in his professional travels. Graham has been a regular on the BBC’s ‘Homes Under The Hammer’ - being their favoured West County auctioneer. Decked out in his trademark stripped blazer, he has made countless appearances on national television.
Senior partner at Symonds & Sampson, Mark Lewis welcomed Graham, saying: “Graham will bring enormous experience to our property auction department and will strengthen our position as the most successful auctioneers in the region. Based in Devon, he will no doubt continue to promote auction as a fast and efficient method of sale throughout Devon and Cornwall, and we look forward to working with him and welcoming new clients to the firm."
Ross Willmington (pictured with Graham), partner heading the Symonds & Sampson Axminster office, said: "We are delighted that Graham has decided to join our successful team, he is a great auctioneer and it is lovely to have him back where he belongs."
