Twenty-seven volunteers from as far afield as Bristol and Yeovil collected more than 2,000 items - weighing 16kg - from the shoreline at Seaton as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Big Beach Clean.
Ian Waite, of Axe Vale and District Conservation Society, which organised the event on Sunday, September 18, said once again platsic items were the most numerous. Unfortunately, several deposits of dog faeces were also noted on the beach, including in the area that is designated ‘Dog Free’.
Details of all the items collected from the beach will be forwarded to the Marine Conservation Society, which will then publish details of what is being found on our beaches in an effort to get action to reduce the littering of our coastline.
