Stories of elderly householders being conned out of their savings by bogus callers and scams are unfortunately all too true in many cases," says East Devon's community safety officer Gerry Moore.However help is at hand, with a free invitation to one of two events focusing on the issues, taking place at venues in East Devon on Friday, March 13. Firstly, at the Manor Pavilion Theatre, Manor Road, Sidmouth, between 9.45am and noon and later at the Institute, in Yonder Street, Ottery St Mary, between 2.15pm and 4.30pm.SCAMBUSTER is a production by Solomon Touring Theatre and the company has been hired by the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership to put across advice that will help householders to tackle the problem of scams, distraction burglaries and bogus callers in East Devon. All members of the public are welcome.Based on true stories, a cast of three professional actors present this musical and energetic live story-telling event. Further help and advice will also be available from other agencies including the Police, South West Water and Devon Trading Standards. The two events promise to be enjoyable and informative and delivered in such a way that people will remember the advice given.Other agencies taking part are East Devon District Council, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon Care and Repair, Home Safeguard the Lions Club and in Ottery St Mary the Later Life Forum. Admission is FREE and free light refreshments will also be provided.
