A CHUNK of one of the Axe Valley's beauty spots has been seriously damaged by an arsonist.Police are concerned that repeated attacks could lead to damage to nearby properties. Firefighters have been called to Roman Road in Shute Woods three times in the last three months, it has been revealed.Police said land the size of a 'basketball court' had been burned and they are treating the incident seriously.PC Darren Herridge, Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Axminster, said: "This behaviour is extremely irresponsible, especially after a dry spell. In years gone by there have been several fires up there on a large scale."Something like this could quite easily cause another one and is a danger to residents."We have some offenders in mind that we are going to follow up. Arson carries a prison sentence of 10 years plus, and those responsible could certainly end up with a criminal record for such acts."People need to think very carefully about what they do.
