Bikers urged to take up safety checks

Police launch new scheme in conjunction with garages.

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary has launched a new motorbike health check scheme after increasing numbers of motorcycles were found with defects during stop-checks.

Police have teamed up with eight garages where riders can take their bikes to be checked by a qualified mechanic for 20.

PC Kevin Druce said: “We want bikers to feel safe and enjoy their bikes this summer and this is a great opportunity for them to get a safety check done to give them peace of mind.

“We frequently stop motorbikes, particularly small motorbikes, which have defects such as damaged brake discs, perished tyres, worn chains and corrosion to the electrics.”
