A UNIVERSITY professor will embark on his 27th Great West Run just two days after receiving recognition for his contribution to social work and social justice.

A UNIVERSITY professor will embark on his 27th Great West Run just two days after receiving recognition for his contribution to social work and social justice.Professor Bill Jordan, 67, of Whimple, is running the half marathon on May 4 in aid of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF).On May 2, the Plymouth University professor will be at The Barbican in London to receive an honorary doctorate in social policy from Kingston University. Professor Jordan is a recognised authority on social work and has written more than 20 books on the subject."I first took part in the Great West Run when I was 40," he told the Herald."I'm a 10k runner who can just about stretch to a half marathon!"In fact, Professor Jordan has enjoyed past success in the event. He has notched up first place in his age group on at least one occasion.Professor Jordan is a member of a village running group and is keen to raise sponsorship for ELF.Anybody interested in sponsoring his run is asked to contact him on (01404) 822809.
