Three tonnes of hay were destroyed after catching fire in an Axminster field last night (Saturday).

The incident happened in Chard Road just before midnights.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival crews confirmed approximately three tonnes of hay well alight within the field and extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets and one main jet.

“The bales were 100 per cent destroyed by fire.

“Police were also informed of this incident.”
