Grand National winner will talk about his life as a jockey and his battle to beat cancer
Sports personality of the year 2011, jockey Bob Champion MBE will be the after dinner speaker at Colyton Grammar School’s Cottrill Hall next month.
He will reveal the drive and determination needed to win the Grand National after being told his chemotherapy had a 35 to 40 per cent success rate and on Aldantini, a horse that was so badly injured that the vet suggested a bullet was the only answer.
As one the top sporting moments, his story was made into a movie ‘Champions’, starring John Hurt.
Alongside training racehorses (until 1999) and encouraging young people into horse racing careers, Bob also set up the Bob Champion Cancer Trust which raises awareness and funds for world class research into male cancers at the Institute of Cancer and at University of East Anglia.
