Having read the article in the Midweek Herald, October 15 2008, about the potential loss of the BP garage in Honiton my immediate reaction was: Are they mad?The BP garage is located in an ideal part of Honiton to service both local and through traffic without causing any disruption to the town, which can be heavily congested on most days. The garage can also service heavy goods vehicles, which no other garage in the town is able to do.There are also many additional benefits to the garage such as a well stocked shop and two car washes. So why does anyone think it is a good idea to close a perfectly sound business to simply replace it with another, untested in the locality, business? Both my wife and I regularly use most, if not all, services offered by the garage, and would oppose any attempt to close it. I have to say to those that wish to see the garage close just to replace it with either Lidl or any other company 'You are stark raving mad and should join the rest of the real world'.I have no objection to Lidl having premises in Honiton, but not at the expense of another business which is doing a good job at servicing the locals. Why can Lidl not open in the premises formally used by Richleys or anywhere else on Heathpark?Jacky and Nigel JolyTaylor Close Ottery St Mary
