The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for tonight with as much as 50mm of rain and gale-force winds predicted in the South West.
Forecasters say the public should ‘be prepared for further localised flooding and disruption to travel’ after heavy and persistent rain is due.
A spokesman for the Met Office said a very deep area of low pressure will bring a spell of wet and windy weather early Tuesday morning,
Due to the already saturated ground in Devon disruption to travel tomorrow morning is predicted.
The spokesman added: “Accumulations of 20 to 30mm are expected quite widely, especially over higher ground, with locally in excess of 50mm over some hill and mountains.
“The heavy rain will also be accompanied by strong winds which could reach gale force around exposed coasts and over hills and moors.”
