Decision follows last night’s extraordinary meeting of Honiton Town Council.

DIANNE Morgan has resigned from Honiton Town Council.

Mrs Morgan, a councillor for almost four years, tendered her resignation this morning (Tuesday), following last night’s extraordinary meeting of the council.

At the meeting, the council agreed to accept an East Devon District Council offer of land for the proposed community centre complex.

However, Mrs Morgan was deemed to have a prejudicial interest - because she owns a property near the site, which is in Dowell Street - so she did not attend the meeting.

“I couldn’t take part in the debate and could only have read out a statement as a member of the public,” she told The Midweek Herald.

“I have decided it would be better if I was just a member of the public.”

During her years on the council, Mrs Morgan abstained from every single vote on the community centre.

She championed road safety improvements on the A35 in Kings Road and was successful in gaining a reduced speed limit and pedestrian crossings.
