POLICE in Honiton have applied for a temporary dispersal zone under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006. If approved, it will be the first time the legislation has been used in Honiton.

It will give police the power to clear troublemakers from problem areas such as Allhallows Playing Field.

In a statement, PC Jo Arundale said: "It will allow us to designate specific areas for which anti-social behaviour is an on-going problem.

"Those found causing a problem in these areas can be issued with a 'Direction to Leave' these areas for up to 48 hours.

"A breach of such an instruction carries a power of arrest. The areas identified will be Allhallows Playing Field, the Glen, Bowling Green park and Oaklea park, among others.
