A SECOND new town is being proposed for East Devon, your Herald can reveal.East Devon District Council confirmed plans for the development today (Tuesday), saying it will resist Government pressure to enlarge Cranbrook and that it is also opposed to the Government plan for the second new community.Housing is one of the challenges faced by the council as it considers its core strategy issues and options report, Planning for the Future, which sets out how the district council develops over the next two decades.A site for the 4,000 home second town has yet to be identified, but is likely to be close to East Devon's border with Exeter.A consultation is to be launched and the council is encouraging local residents to participate.Council leader Sara Randall Johnson said: "It is a chance for residents and businesses to start thinking about the realities and challenges of the changes coming over the next ywo decades and how to make the best of the opportunities presented to us."The proposed expansion of Cranbrook, beyond what the council considered appropriate, and the proposed second new community, which is opposed by the council, will both be controversial and it is important that people express their views about these developments."
