Following the success of courses started by a local bridge club last year, a new programme of lessons will begin this month, catering for both beginners and improvers in East Devon.Sidmouth Bridge Club stepped in to organise the teaching of bridge after the local education authority axed classes which had been run in several centres in East Devon for many years, attracting hundreds of people each year. Changing grants and a reorganisation of adult education meant that many leisure courses were cut but it was believed that there was still a great demand for bridge lessons, and this was proved to be so when over 30 eager players joined the first improvers' course at Sidmouth. This led to another course for absolute beginners being started with equal success. The new courses, starting at Sidmouth Rugby Club on Wednesday, September 17, with the same teachers, Vivien Peters and Ken Rowe, will cater for people from all over East Devon (from absolute beginners to improvers who have attended previous courses). Interested people should contact Ken Rowe on (01404) 43259 or just turn up on Sept ember 17. Beginners classes will start at 10am and improvers at 1.45pm.
