AN elderly pedestrian was seriously injured when she was hit by a double-decker bus in Seaton.The woman, described by police as being in her late 80s, was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with injuries to her lower legs following the incident at Marine Crescent at around 3.15pm on Friday, February 20.She was due to have surgery on her legs, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening. An elderly man was also involved in the incident, which took place just outside the former Woolworths store.Chairman of Seaton Social Club Phillip Sawyer witnessed the incident and went to help.He said: "It was awful. I rushed out the door and so did quite a few of us. Within minutes there were a lot of people at the scene."The woman seemed to be still conscious but the injuries to her legs, especially the left one, looked horrific."She was very well cared for. The air ambulance arrived in a short time and did a first class job in my opinion."Witnesses described the bus driver as being in a state of shock. First Hampshire and Dorset Bus Company and police have launched investigations into the accident.Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident, involving a bus on the X54 route to call them on 0845 2 777 444, quoting reference 588 200209.
