WITHIN seconds of spotting smoke in a parked car, a worker at Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton, realised flames had taken hold and that the situation was an emergency.Phil Ross, installation manager at Select Windows, had just reported seeing smoke in a car to Honiton MOT Centre when he realised he needed to re-dial 999. Two fire engines attended the scene of the blaze at around 3.20pm last Thursday.Mike Bargery, owner of Select Windows, said: "The fire burnt our fence and melted the front of one of our conservatories."However, safety glass stood up to the test. From the inside of the conservatory, you wouldn't know there had been a fire."Mr Bargery said the fire took hold so quickly that it went from smoke to flames in a matter of seconds. The fire is believed to have started in a parked white Ford Escort. Youths were seen running away from the scene.
