Patron Saint’s Day commemorated in towns and villages across the Axe Valley

Towns and villages across the Axe Valley turned red and white on Thursday to mark St George’s Day. At Axminster, market day shoppers were treated to a special proclamation written and read by town crier Nick Goodwin.

He declared: “I love this land called England; I’m proud of who I am; I’m a patriotic Englishman; And I don’t give a damn!”

Its chorus continued: “Cry God for Harry, England and Saint George; Shout it with passion as we did at Agincourt; Shout it from the Pennines to the depths of Cheddar Gorge; God for Harry, England and St George.”
