Tiny harbourside lifeboat souvenir store is ranked second most profitable in the country
LYME Regis lifeboat shop may be a minnow compared to most in the country – but it makes a giant contribution to RNLI funds.
Volunteers who work at the harbour-side store have taken more than 127,000 so far this year - and they are now ranked second out of more than 120 similar souvenir shops up and down the land.
The latest figures were given to volunteers who run the shop when they held a celebratory coffee morning at the lifeboat station.
Volunteer manager Brian Cursley said: “Of course our little shop is in a marvellous position at the harbour leading to The Cobb, but in the end the result is due to the tremendous work of more than 40 people who give up their time to keep the doors open.”
At the moment the Lyme Regis shop is second only to the much larger operation at Whitby.
Female volunteers – and the manager – marked their success by posing with RNLI calendars at the lifeboat station.
