Well done Jill McNally and her supporters for asking that the issue of the proposed Honiton Community Centre complex be debated and voted on in public. Why did the council go into private session anyway?I think the supporters of this project want to vote through the loan via the back door.It is obvious that the town council is not in total agreement about the loan. Have they worked out the financial burden on the local taxpayers? On my calculation, £250,000 for the next 25 years will cost an extra £20,000 per annum, which is 20 per cent of their annual budget. Is that what the taxpayers want? With this amount of money we should have a public vote, and if the electorate is in favour so be it. When it comes to a vote, be it council or public, it should not be by simple majority but by two-thirds majority.I am not against the project, but the huge cost. What happened to the money from the sale of Exeter Airport?
