HONITON Town Council does not want work to start on junction improvements in High Street until at least the autumn - to give town centre traders a chance to recover from the recession.

A major scheme, including the reintroduction of traffic lights, is being planned for the junction of High Street with New Street.

Devon County Council's area engineer, Paul Wilson, has told the town council that the autumn would be the earliest work would start.

Town clerk Lyn Hargood says she needs plenty of notice, because the work will mean the temporary relocation of Honiton's ancient street market.
