WITH reference to your front page story Fowl play: Honestly, don't these people know there is a war on! With food prices the way they are, and still rising, Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall had the right idea. People who wish to go green should be encouraged to do so.Keeping poultry is a useful first step. You get the satisfaction of fresh eggs, good manure for the garden, a vegetable waste disposal system and garden pest control, all for a little food, water, shelter and attention. However, I belive people should go a step further and take up the World War Two idea of "Dig for Victory". Nothing tastes better than your own grown fruit, vegetables or eggs, and fruit and veg can be grown in containers or grow bags as well as the garden. As for the cat problem, Mr Middleton, the answer is simple - get or borrow a dog, preferably a terrier, because most of them hate cats. No cat with any sense would then come in to your garden and you will aviod prosecution for cruelty to cats! A CroftsPoultry keeper Rousdon
