Axminster swimming pool rolls out its new heat-saving cover thanks to another £10,000 gift from Axe Valley Festival
Staff at Axminster’s Flamingo Pool were able to roll out their new cover following a £10,000 donation from the Axe Vale Festival committee.
The money matched a similar mount given by the organisation earlier in the year.
Fund raising efforts from staff, volunteers and friends of the pool also raised much needed cash for the project, thanks to community support.
Centre manager Steve Buxton said the cover for the 25m pool would help save money.
He said: “We would like to thank Axe Vale Festival for their generous donation without which the purchase of the pool cover would not be possible. The festival is a community event and we are grateful to the community for their continuous support.”
The new pool cover will enable the Flamingo Pool team to save around 20 per cent on their monthly gas and electricity expenses by reducing temperature loss due to evaporation. Additionally it will decrease the energy requirement for fresh air dehumidification, saving fuel bills which account for most of the pool’s expenses.
Staff say the money saved will be used to support the community and provide more services.
* The Flamingo Pool, a self-funded charity, embraces eco-friendly technology to lower the carbon footprint and
save money. Both pools are disinfected by Ultra-Violet (UV) light so that the level of chlorine is approximately a third of a normally disinfected pool.
The pool is open to all for swimming, aquafit, swimming lessons, lifesaving, swimming clubs, family fun, inflatable sessions and training courses.
