In the recent past, I have been closely involved in organising concert events in Honiton and I read the proposals for the new community centre with more than a passing interest.

Among the variety of pros and cons, hitherto aired in your readers' letters, there is another beneficial aspect of the proposal, which appears to have been overlooked. It is based on the obvious fact that this town is well served by good road transport links.

The benefits of these links have been clearly revealed from the analysis of the postcodes, which our audiences were invited to provide (only the first four characters required) and which the majority happily did.

This analysis showed that the whole of East Devon was well represented with significant numbers travelling from Exeter and Taunton.

Hence, the proposed centre would clearly serve a wider field than just our town. As a consequence, those arriving from further afield would presumably also have brought welcome trade to our various catering establishments.

Finally, an incorporated box office would radically ease the sale of tickets, especially right up to "curtain-up" time, and the punters could also beneficially browse forthcoming events displayed on the notice boards.
