Thank you, once again, to the supporters in Honiton who contributed to an amount of 500.10 being raised on our stall in Lace Walk on Saturday August 15.

The money we raised will help our gene therapy research programme, in which the first dose of gene therapy product was recently given to the first patients - a huge milestone in the work to improve the clinical and life expectancy of cystic fibrosis patients.

This pilot study is well under way, 27 volunteers, all adults with CF, are having one dose each to test for safety and to give an indication of the amount of actual gene product needed in each dose.

As we now test all babies at birth, if this research is successful, it will mean that the corrective gene will be introduced to the lungs, thereby reducing congestion and increasing average life expectancy. On September 13 we have organised a Great Strides walk at Haldon Forest, - if anyone would like to come along and join in, phone Audrey Williams on 0845 8591036.

On September 17 the Exeter Police and Community Choir will be performing at The King's School, Ottery St Mary, for us. Tickets are 6, we will have a raffle, refreshments will be available in the interval. Tickets available from Ottery St Mary Tourist Information Centre (01404) 813964, Helen Foster (01404) 811604 or Liz Brown (01404) 44043.

Tickets will also be available on the door.

Thanks again, Honiton supporters.
