CHAMPAGNE corks will be popping in Honiton on March 2 when a charity notches up its 16th year in the town.Brainwave will be celebrating with customers and volunteers at 11.30am.Paul Evans, of Brainwave, said "We believe that our shop was among the first charity shops in Honiton. We have been using the same premises since 1993 and we thought it was about time we had a proper celebration to say thank you to our volunteers and customers. We are going to open some bubbly to toast everyone who has been involved with the shop, particularly our unpaid volunteers without whom we could not operate."Prospective shop volunteers are invited to attend the occasion.Like many charities, Brainwave receives no government funding and relies totally on donated gifts. In Honiton, it has won particular recognition from shoppers for its diverse range of secondhand books.Brainwave provides therapy and programmes for children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, autism and developmental delay. Parents are shown how to carry out the programme so that they can undertake the exercises at home. Places on the programme are available for children at the South West Centre, in Bridgwater.
