A new community champion has been employed at Honiton Tesco - and she has set her sights firmly on helping local charities and people.

Louisa Littlewood has taken over from retiring champion Kim Hutchinson and has told the Herald that she wants to make a difference in the town.

“This is very much a community store,” the 24-year-old said. “We have lots of regulars and local people come in.”

Louisa said that it is sometimes difficult to inform everyone on what Tesco Honiton does for the community and its groups.

She added that she is ‘very excited’ about the challenge ahead.

“I do not know where this is going to take me,” she said. “I am open to possibilities and working closely with local charities to get the word out.

“We have our charities of the year and we raise a lot of money for them, but I want to focus more on Honiton and local people.”

Louisa gave an example of just one of the things her store can do for a person or organisation which is fundraising.

She said if there was a young person fundraising in town, they would be able to use the store’s foyer, with a couple of members of staff in tow to help raise money for their cause.

“We cannot necessarily give them money but I can give my time,” she added.

Louisa is now on the lookout for any group or person who needs help.

Anyone interested in linking up with her to help raise money should get in touch by emailing louisacommunitychampion@gmail.com or calling her on 07933670416.

“This is about raising the profile,” she added.

“We do not want to be known as big bad Tesco - we want people to know what we can do.”
