THE new town clerk for Seaton has left behind gardening for a career in local government.

THE new town clerk for Seaton has left behind gardening for a career in local government.David Mears, 24, from Wambrook, near Chard, was in the gardening business for six years. But, after a brief stint on a parish council and on completion of a local council course, he has had a change of direction.Mr Mears worked as the parish clerk of Buckland St Mary since June and has been a councillor in Chard since May 2007. He finished a Certificate in Local Council Administration with the University of Gloucester and is awaiting the results.He said: "I wanted a change of direction and to be inside at this time of year! When I saw the job advert, I didn't want to work anywhere else. "I think Seaton has got a lot of potential and it's going through interesting times and I want to be a part of it.
