Charmouth: Women go quackers to save duck

THE sight of a duck struggling to free one of its legs from a frozen part of the River Char spurred a group of women on-lookers to take action.

THE sight of a duck struggling to free one of its legs from a frozen part of the River Char spurred a group of women on-lookers to take action.The women were all out walking in Charmouth last Friday when they spotted the duck in trouble, near the river mouth.An eye witness told the Herald: "The duck was stuck right in the middle of the river."Lots of people could see that the duck was stuck."We all chatted about what we could do."One of the on-lookers called the RSPCA for advice. In the end a Charmouth woman filled an empty bin with warm water and threw it over the ice, freeing the duck."It goes to show, you've got to duck and dive to stay alive!" said the witness.
