AN amateur town crier competition will be among the highlights of this year's Charter Day in Honiton.

AN amateur town crier competition will be among the highlights of this year's Charter Day in Honiton.People of all ages - from toddlers to pensioners - are eligible to enter the contest.The event, spawned from the success of celebrations held last year to mark the 750th anniversary of Honiton's street market, will take place on Saturday, July 26 - just days after the traditional hot pennies ceremony.A photography competition will be another feature of the Charter Day, along with a charity market.One of the most successful elements of last year's programme was a charity market, held in Northcote Lane.Many groups in Honiton participated in the market.Anybody wishing to take part in this year's events is asked to call Honiton Town Council on (01404) 42957.
