More volunteers needed.

Honiton’s annual Charter Day is under threat unless more volunteers can be found.

Councillor John Zarczynski, who is also the chairman of the Charter Day Committee, told Honiton Town Council that the committee was ‘struggling for volunteers’ to help with this year’s event.

He said: “At the moment we are down to two people – we are struggling to find other people willing to help.

“The small budget we have, quite a chunk of that goes to promoting, advertising and flyers. I don’t see there is much we can do in terms of money.”

The town council has made a grant of £500 available for this year’s Charter Day, which is held to celebrate the town’s historic market charter. The budget has been reduced from £1,000.

Cllr Zarczynski added: “People need to be willing to muck in and help out. At the moment Charter Day is in the balance. We need volunteers and help.

“If it gets to the situation where we don’t get anymore help we don’t know what we are going to do. We can’t organise a wedding on a birthday party budget.”

Anyone interested in helping with Charter Day is urged to call John on 01404 758179.
