Cheque fraud warning

East Devon shopkeepers warned to be on their guard.

RETAILERS in Devon are being advised to be on their guard when taking payment for goods.

This warning comes after a local butcher accepted a cheque payment for goods worth £70 when the person had forgotton their bank card.

The cheque supplied was worthless and contained a false name and address.

Police are urging retailers to insist on proper payment including the right card.
