I was taking my grandson home on Friday evening (August 14). It was 6.20pm and we were crossing the railway viaduct at the back of Honiton.

As we drove over, there was a family of four - two parents and two young boys. One boy was looking down over the bridge at the railway lines with his father standing next to him. The mother dragged the other boy in front of herself and hit him so hard around the head it knocked him to the floor. She was then leaning over him, shouting at him.

The sight upset me, hence me writing this letter.

I know that children can stretch your tolerance and love but, if you treat children with pain and disrespect, then it will only breed more pain and disrespect.

Children are precious and are our future.

The man looked at me and I looked at him, and would recognise him again, I hope that you have a conscience, whoever and wherever you are.
