AS the 40th anniversary of the first landing on the moon approaches, a Honiton woman has written a children's adventure story all about space. To The Moon is the first in a series of books to be published by Karen Young. The former teaching assistant says she got the idea for the story while reading to boys. She felt there was a gap in the market for a story that bridged the gap between science and fiction."I didn't like the books I used to read to children," she said. "To The Moon was originally aimed at reluctant readers. It is about three children who go to the moon and take samples and lots of photographs."I am writing a series of books, which takes young readers aged between eight and 12 to each of the planets. The next one will be Mars."Twenty-five per cent of book sales will be donated to the Norman Lockyer Observatory Society, which is raising money for a new dome.Special events will be taking place at the observatory to mark the 40th anniversary of the first landing on the moon around July 25.To The Moon is priced 2 and is available from the observatory shop or by calling Karen on (01404) 42735.
