Children's writer praises budding authors

CHILDREN'S writer David Tinkler presented budding young wordsmiths with prizes following a junior writing competition organised by Honiton Writers' Circle.

CHILDREN'S writer David Tinkler presented budding young wordsmiths with prizes following a junior writing competition organised by Honiton Writers' Circle.Mr Tinkler also judged the competition.Winners received certificates, Writers' Circle pens, gift tokens and signed copies of Mr Tinkler's books.During presentations at Honiton Community Primary School and the Monkton Court Hotel, Mr Tinkler congratulated all those who took part, for the quality of their writing and for their imaginative ideas.A similar competition is being planned for next year and also one for older young people.Joint winners in the nine to 11 age group were Chloe Murrell, 10, with her story Criminal Attack and Ben Mason, 10, with My Great Escape.Winner of the under-eight age group was Miriam Fearn, seven, and runner-up was Jake Matthews, eight, both of Honiton Community Primary School. They wrote stories about dinosaurs after visiting Charmouth's fossil-rich beach.
