HONITONIAN Chris Tratt has been unanimously elected to serve as the town's next mayor.Currently deputy mayor, he will take over from Councillor Vernon Whitlock on June 2.Nominated by Councillor Vera Howard and seconded by Councillor Liz Tirard, his elevated role was confirmed at a meeting on Monday."I'd just like to thank you all very much for the trust and confidence you are placing in me to run this council," he said.Councillor Whitlock said: "I think we've elected a good man; a man of Honiton."There was a contest for the role of deputy mayor, with two nominations being received.Following a secret ballot, town and district councillor Vivienne Ash was elected with 15 votes. Liz Tirard received two votes.Councillor Whitlock paid tribute to the enormous amount of voluntary work undertaken on behalf of the council by Councillor Tirard.Councillor Ash has served more than 12 years on the town council, returning after a break in May last year.
