St Giles’ Church at Kilmington looked lovely in the candle light as crowds streamed in for the Christingle Service, led by the Rev Anne Mills.
The Christmas and memory trees, kindly donated by Millers Farm Shop, were lit and decorated and there were already several stars on the Lady Chapel tree bearing names of loved ones to be remembered at this time of year.
The Music Group led the singing of some well known Advent and Christmas songs and Anna Crabbe introduced the newly formed “Kilmington Singing Kids” who performed two songs very well.
The parents, grandparents, family and friends as well as the whole congregation of well over 100 certainly gave them a warm reception.

Following a reading by Nigel Burton and prayers by Ken Wilcox, the climax came with the lighting of the Christingles following an explanation of their significance by the minister. All the children went up to receive theirs and congregated on the steps of the chancel to sing “Away in a Manger”, just in the light of candles.
The collection was donated to the Children’s Society.
