June Millman has received the Citizen of the Year Award in Seaton. Mrs Millman, who was born and raised locally, was praised for her contribution to the community during the town's annual meeting.
June Millman has received the Citizen of the Year Award in Seaton.Mrs Millman, who was born and raised locally, was praised for her contribution to the community during the town's annual meeting.Mayor Sandra Semple cited June's various involvements, including voluntary work for Axminster Drama Club, Axe Vale Operatic Society, her role on the town hall committee, procession manager at Seaton Carnival and as founder and leader of the Fire and Ice Majorettes.Mrs Millman first founded the club at Kilmington Primary School and, with the closure of the youth club in Seaton, transferred the troupe's base in April 2007. She put her own money into the club, and Cllr Semple said she was now seeing the pay back.Cllr Semple said: "June is a credit to Seaton and wholly deserves this award."Mrs Millman, who was lured to the meeting by her husband under false pretences, was greeted by friends and family. She said: "Thank you so much. I don't know quite what else to say. "I think it's a lovely thing and I'll support the town any other way I can.
