Lyme Regis lifeboat stands by as pair stranded by landslide on coastal walk east of Charmouth is airlifted to safety

Lyme Regis lifeboat was launched today (Sunday) to assist in the rescue of two people cut off by the tide east of Charmouth.

Portland coastguards called for their help after reports that a man and a woman were trapped near a major landslip.

Because of the swell the lifeboat was unable to reach shore, but the crew assisted the Portland coastguard recue helicopter which airlifted the couple to safety.

The lifeboat was launched at 4.14pm and returned to Lyme Regis at 5.05pm.

This was the fourth emergency call for the lifeboat volunteers so far this year.
